The Projection of Spinocerebellar Neurons from the Sacrococcygeal Spinal Cord in the Cat. An Experimental Study Using Anterograde Transport of WGA-HRP and Degeneration

摘要: 采用两种方法来研究猫骶尾髓到小脑的投射:6只猫在骶髓半断下方向脊髓灰质注入麦茅凝集素结合辣根过氧化酶(WGA-HRP),观察顺行标记纤维及末梢在小脑内的分布;3只猫在下腰髓半断后用Fink-Heimer氏法观察溃变纤维的分布。 WGA-HRP标记的苔藓末梢分布于双侧小脑前叶Ⅰ—Ⅴ小叶,其中多数集中在Ⅱ小叶的前部。其分布呈与正中面平行的纵行条带并主要位于叶片的浅表部。少数末梢还在后叶蚓部的Ⅷ小叶B部及旁正中小叶交合部呈单侧分布,还有一些末梢止于小脑中央核。标记纤维还见于一侧脊髓外侧索和小脑上、下脚。用Fink-Heimer法所看到的溃变纤维及末梢与用WGA-HRP法所显示的结果相一致。对结果的讨论提示在猫的下段脊髓内存在有参与组成脊髓小脑腹侧和背侧束的神经元,其机能可能与接受来自下肢远端和尾的皮肤外感受器的输入有关。

Abstract: The projection from the sacrococcygeal cord to the cerebellum was studied by two kinds of techniques in the cat. In six cats WGA-HRP was injected caudal to a preceding unilateral cordotomy at the sacral level and the distribution of WGA-HRP labeled fibers and terminals was studied in the cerebellum In three additional cats degenerating fibers were examined by Fink-Heimer’s method after semi-transection of the lateral and ventral funiculi of the lowest lumbar cord. The WGA-HRP labeled mossy fiber terminals were located bilaterally in lobules Ⅰ-Ⅴ. Most of them were found in the anterior part of lobule Ⅱ. The terminals were concentrated in longitudinal zones parallel to the midplane. In lobule Ⅱ the terminals were most abundant in the superficial part of the folia. A few of terminals were observed, in addition, in sublobule ⅧB and the pars copularis of the paramedian lobuIe. Some terminals were also seen in the cerebellar nuclei. Labeled fibers were found unilaterally in the superior and inferior cerebellar peduncles, as well as in the spinal cord, rostral to the cordotomy, The results of the degeneration experiments were much the same as those of the WGA-HRp experiments.Present study indicates that there are several cell groups which send axons to the dorsal and ventral spinocerebellar tracts in the very lower spinal cord in the cat. Majority of these neurons relate functionally to cutaneous afferents from the distal hindlimb and tail.
