Abstract: The aim was to discuss and define the detection of eye signs, diagnose of fixed position before operation and the protection of visual function in patients with sphenoid ridge meningiomas. To make a retrospective analysis, 45 operation-confirmed cases of sphenoid ridge meningiomas were involved from January 1995 to June 2001. Eye signs were shown in 39(87%) cases, and in all of the meningioma of anterior clinoid process, most of them were shown in the form of first symptom. It indicated that if the patient has these symptoms, the probability of this disease should be considered: headache along with a single eye hypopsia and optic atrophy, a single exophthalmos with blepharedema, a single defect of visual field, many extraocular paralysis, and so on. An early diagnosis or treatment is helpful for the recovery of visual function. Taking a postoperative ophthalmological is necessary.
