Abstract:

Objective To evaluate safety and efficacy of total parenteral nutrition(TPN) in patients with postoperative alimentary malignant tract tumor. Methods Twenty-seven patients with alimentary tract malignant tumor were treated with total parenteral nutrition after operation in oncological department of Beijing Tongren Hospital. Serum levels of albumin, prealbumin and transferrin were compared. Complications of total parenteral nutrition and serum levels of CEA and CA199 in 3 months after operation were observed. Results Serum levels of albumin and prealbumin were higher on the 4^th and 7^th day. And serum level of transferrin was higher on the 7^th day. Only one patient with catheter-related bloodstream infection was observed. Serum levels of CEA and CA199 in 3 months after operation were not elevated.Conclusion Total parenteral nutrition in patients with postoperative alimentary tract tumor is safe and effective.
