Abstract: The aim was to investigate the changes of the levels of cytokines tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α) and interleukin-6(IL-6) in periphery blood with Parkinson's disease(PD) and study the immune pathologic mechanism of the disease. Thirty patients with PD were tested by radioimmunity method. Meanwhile twenty-two cases with other neurological diseases(OND) and 24 healthy control(HC) were tested. The average level of TNF-α was found to be significantly lower in PD patients 〔(13.83± 4.47)pmol/L〕 than in OND patients 〔(17.53±7.25)pmol/L〕 and in HC 〔(16.57±3.05)pmol/L〕 (P< 0.05, respectively). And the average level of IL-6 was found to be significantly lower also in PD patients 〔(112.80±25.13)μg/L〕 than in OND patients 〔(178.53±42.78)μg/L〕 and in HC 〔(136.22± 17.40)μg/L〕 (P<0.001, respectively). But the results were not related with the age, the course and type of the disease among PD patients. Abnormal changes of cytokines indicate that immune malfunction exists in the patients with PD. The results support the hypothesis that cytokine is involved in the degenerative processes which occur in PD.
