Abstract: Objective To compare the curative effect of integrating traditional and western medicine methods of Professor Li Gui and that of the western medicine on children with persistent refractory mycoplasma pneumoniae pneumonia. Methods The control group was treated with azithromycin injection i.v. once per day for seven days. The patients without satisfying effect were given three more days of the treatment after a four-day-interval. After that, the patients in the control group was given methylprednisolone i.v. for three to five days. Meanwhile, they were given Yi Tan Jing, a compound solution of clenbuterol hydrochloride and ambroxol hydrochloride, from the day they came to hospital. The treatment group was treated with azithromycin injection i.v. once per day for seven days. Those without satisfying effect were treated with different types of Chinese traditional medicine instead of western medicine. Results Time for the treatment group to relief fever and cough was significantly shorter than that of the control group (P<0.01). And time for the treatment group to disappearance of the moist rale and wheezing rale was also significantly shorter than that of the control group (P<0.05 and 0.01). After being given the Chinese traditional medicine, the treatment group stayed in hospital for significantly fewer days than the control group (P<0.05). The total time for the treatment group to stay in hospital was also shorter than that of the control group, but the difference was not statistically significant. Conclusion The effect of the combination of Chinese traditional medicine with the effect of clearing heat and detoxication, quickening the blood and transform stasis, fortifying the spleen and boosting qi and western medicine on the children with persistent refractory mycoplasma pneumoniae pneumonia was much better than that of the control group.
