Abstract:

Objective To investigate obstetrics-related risk factors in terms of neonatal asphyxia and methods of prevention,so as to reduce the incidence of neonatal asphyxia, and improve obstetrical quality. Methods 6 568 neonatal cases delivered in the hospital from 2001.1—2005.5 were analyzed retrospectively to investigate obstetrical causes of neonatal asphyxia, and find out which kind of delivery may induce the neonatal asphyxia. Results Obstetrical complications such as umbilical cord abnormality, oligohydramnios and premature labor were associated with neonatal asphyxia. There was no significant difference in terms of neonatal asphyxia incidence between vaginal delivery and caesarean section, but forceps delivery would induce more neonatal asphyxia. Conclusion Regular prenatal visiting, screening and preventing obstetrical complications can reduce the incidence of neonatal asphyxia. The treatment such as choosing the correct way of delivery, proper management the pregnant complications and curing the depravation newborn can reduce the incidence of neonatal asphyxia and perinatal mortality.
