Abstract: The research explored the methods of production of canine models of lateral, bifurcation and terminal arterial aneurysms. Aneurysmal models were constructed by anastomosing venous pouches onto the rebuilt common carotid arteries under general anesthesia. The experimental aneurysms were evaluated by digital subtraction angiography(DSA)after 1 to 3 weeks. Fifteen lateral aneurysms, 9 bifurcation aneurysms and 8 terminal aneurysms were obtained Successfully. One animal died of over-dosed anesthesia. Another died from rupture of a terminal aneurysm. One dog had its bifurcation aneurysm, lateral aneurysm and parent arteries completely thrombosed, 3 had their lateral aneurysms occluded spontaneously, and one had its terminal aneurysm ruptured to form pseudoaneurysm 3 weeks after operation. The results demonstrate that construction of aneurysmal models by anastomosing the venous porches is a ideal method with a highly successful rate of surgery and fewer complications.
