Studies of the Influence of Psychological Intervention on Adult Patients with Labiopalatal Clefts

Abstract: Objective To evaluate the influence of psychological intervention on adult patients with cleft lip and palate. Methods Thirty-four hospitalized adult cleft lip and palate patients were randomly divided into control group and trial group. Patients in the control group received operative therapy only, while patients in the trial group received additional psychological therapy at the same time. All patients had psychological measurements separately on admission and discharging using Social Support Rating Scale, Interaction Anxiousness Scale and the Self-Esteem Scale. Results Scores of two groups had no significant difference before intervention. The change in aggregate scores of social support in the trial group was obviously higher than that in control group(P<0.05), while other changes in scores were not significant. Conclusion Psychological interventions are good methods to enhance psychological health level in adult patient with cleft lip and palate.
