Abstract: The current standard of care for chronic infection with hepatitis C virus is pegylated interferon-alfa(PEG-IFN) and ribavirin (RBV).Genetic variation in interleukin 28-B ( IL-28B ) play an important role in treatment response of chronic hepatitis C. It may be a strong predictor for the therapy of interferon. This paper discusses the significance of IL-28B in the therapy of chronic hepatitis C through the relationship between IL-28B and treatment response with its possible mechanism.

Key words: hepatitis C, genome-wide association study, interleukin 28-B, interferon-λ, interferon-α
