Abstract: Objective To evaluate the safety and efficacy of a new radioactive stent for treatment of advanced extrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma. Methods This is a non randomized retrospective study. Nine patients were involved.Radiation dose was determined by a new treatment planning system (TPS). Then the new radioactive stents were implanted by duodenoscope. Actual radiation dose, time of the stent patency and survival period was observed. Results Successful operations were achieved in 9 patients. The actual radiation dose was (57.10±21.14) Gy. The median survival period was 397 days. The average patency time was 125.7 days and 101.8 days in plastic stent combined and single radioactive stent respectively. Conclusion The radioactive stent was safe and effective in patients with advanced extrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma.
