Value of magnifying endoscopy with blue laser imaging in diagnosis of atrophy and intestinal metaplasia

Abstract: Objective To determine the utility of magnifying endoscopy with blue laser imaging(ME-BLI) in diagnosis of atrophy and intestinal metaplasia(IM) among people with risk of atrophy and IM. Methods Patients with risk factors of atrophy or IM underwent ME-BLI from Feb 2017 to Dec 2017. Biopsy was obtained in both atrophic or intestinal metaplasia lesion and gastric mucosal without atrophy or IM. The sensitivity, specificity and accuracy in both atrophy and IM with ME-BLI were calculated. Results The sensitivity, specificity, accuracy, positive and negative predictive value was 93.40%, 71.96%, 79.02%, 62.26% and 95.65% in the diagnosis of atrophy with ME-BLI respectively. The sensitivity, specificity, accuracy, positive and negative predictive value was 100%, 92.07%, 95.94%, 92.31% and 100% in the diagnosis of intestinal metaplasia, respectively. Conclusion The sensitivity, specificity and accuracy with ME-BLI in detection of atrophy and IM were good.
