Ten-year experience in facial bone contouring plasty

Abstract: Objective To review ten-year experiences in facial bone contouring plasty by our craniofacial team. Methods During ten-year clinical practice, we have performed 750 cases of mandibular contouring surgery, 141 cases of reduction malarplasty with type I or type L osteotomy combined with temple-facial soft tissue lifting, and 117 cases of different type genioplasty. Results All 1 008 individuals underwent surgery of facial bone contouring plasty have got prominent improvement in facial bone contour. As for complications, 3 cases with temporary injury to temporal branch of facial nerve were found in reduction malarplasty, 1 case with massive haemorrhage in mandibular contouring surgery, and 2 cases with infections in mandibular contouring surgery, and 2 cases with mental nerve damages. All complications were recovered after effective treatment. Conclusion Facial bone contouring plasty with reasonable surgery procedures and skillful technical operation may significantly improve patients facial bone contour appearance.
