Clinical Observation of Folic Acid to Homocysteine Disease

Abstract: To observe the effects and side-effects of folic acid to plasma homocysteine disease, 30 coronary patients with high plasma homocysteine were selected. They took 0.8 mg folic acid per day and their homocysteine levels were compared before and after being treated. The homocysteine levels of 53.3 % patients decreased to normal by taking folic acid for two weeks. The homocysteine levels of 93.3 % patients decreased to normal by taking folic acid for four weeks. No side effect was found.Conclusion: The homocysteine levels can be effectively decreased by taking folic acid for four weeks.
