Abstract: P4501A1 is a kind of enzyme related with the carcinogenic activity of aromatic hydrocarbon, the polymorphism in exons 7 of the gene could alter the function, and has been reported to be associated with lung cancer in Japanese. But data from Caucasian or African-American were different. The difference is said to be from the different frequencies of this polymorphism between ethnic groups. This paper analyzed the frequency of polymorphism in exons 7 of CYP1A1 gene in Chinese by the PCR method. The results suggested that the frequencies of genotype in Chinese were Ile/Ile 61.6%, Ile/Val 26.4% and Val/Val 12.0%, no significant difference of the frequencies between male and female was found. But the frequency of Val/Val was much higher than that in Japanese, Caucasian or African American.
