An evaluation of scientific research competitiveness of clinical medicine subject in Chinese universities based on factor analysis

Abstract: Objective Selected 50 universities which have participated in the 2012 subject evaluation, to evaluate the competitiveness of its clinical research. Methods Selected the number of Web of Science documents, category normalized citation impact (CNCI), times cited, percentage of documents cited, percentage of documents cited in the top 1%, percentage of documents cited in the top 10%,percentage of hot papers. H index, the number of international cooperation papers, the number of F1000 documents index, based on factor analysis by SPSS software, two common factors were extracted, and comprehensive scores were calculated to analyze the scientific research competitiveness of the universities. Results From the perspective of the scale of scientific research productivity, the top three universities were Shanghai Jiaotong University, Peking University, and Fudan University. From the perspective of the high impact of scientific research, the top three universities were Nanjing University, Ningbo University and Nanjing University of Chinese Medicine. From the perspective of comprehensive scientific research competitiveness, the top ten universities were Shanghai Jiaotong University, Peking University, Fudan University, Sun Yat Sen University, Peking Union Medical College, Capital Medical University, Nanjing Medical University, Nanjing University, Central South University, Zhejiang the University. Conclusion It is suggested that each university should improve the competitiveness of clinical medical research from the aspects of the scale of scientific research productivity and the high impact of scientific research according to the actual situation of subject development.
