Abstract: Objective  To establish the fingerprints of the standard decoction of radix Paeoniae Alba, and to identify the active ingredients of radix Paeoniae Alba, in order to provide theoretical basis for the quality control and clinical application of radix Paeoniae Alba. Methods  Ten batches of radix Paeoniae Alba were collected and the standard decoction of radix Paeoniae Alba was prepared; the fingerprints of the standard decoction of radix Paeoniae Alba were established by ultra performance liquid chromatography (UPLC), and the fingerprints were analyzed by the 2012 version of the Fingerprint Similarity Evaluation System for Traditional Chinese Medicine; and the common peaks were identified by comparing with the control product, and by checking the mass spectral data with the literature. Results  The fingerprints of 10 batches of standard decoction of radix Paeoniae Alba were identified with 22 common peaks, and the peaks were well separated, with the similarity of each sample>0.9. Five common peaks were recognized, which were catechin, albiflora, paeoniflorin,  pyrethrin II, and benzoylpaeoniflorin, respectively. Conclusion  The established fingerprint method has good precision, reproducibility and stability, and can provide a basis for the quality evaluation of radix Paeoniae Alba.
