Complication Caused by Intramedullar Interlocking Nail in Treatment of Long Bone Shaft Fracture

Abstract: To find out the causes and precautions of complication of intramedullar interlocking nail in the long bone shaft fracture 58 cases of intramedullar interlocking nail in the long bone shaft fracture was analyzed from 1997 to 2001. After the follow-up from 6 months to 4 years it was found that within the average of one year and six months, all fracture healed. Complications developed in 16 patients. The indication must be correctly chosen. Sufficient pre-operation preparation, and regular and careful operation are the key to the successful operation and complication reduction. The patient with comminuted fracture fixed with intramedullar interlocking nail should properly delay the time to start weight bearing.
