Abstract: Objective To determine the changes in tryptophan levels in the chronic fatigue syndrome(CFS) patients. Methods The levels of tryptophan in the plasma of CFS patients were determined by HPLC.The patients and healthy persons were selected according to the CDC criteria. Results The levels of tryptophan in CFS(32.03±5.33)μmol/L increased significantly when compared those in controls(22.49±4.26)μmol/L.Conclusion Serotonergic dysfunction that initially came from the metabolitic disturbance of trytophan in the plasma might be one of the pathogenetic factors for CFS.
