Abstract:

Objective To develop and establish the testing methods appropriate for the determination of the working time and setting time of these materials using the Displacement rheometer. Methods Five commercial tissue conditioners were used. Three tests were carried out for each material both at 23 ℃(working time) and at 37 ℃(setting time). The working time was defined as the time when initial elastic recovery of the material was observed at 23 ℃. The setting time was the time when the elastic recovery reached a final constant value at 37 ℃.Results The significant differences were found among the working time and setting time among the different materials. The setting behavior of each material was different. The SR sample exhibited shortest value of working time with (2.7±0.2)min. And the VG sample exhibited longest value with (15.7±0.5)min. In the setting time, the VG sample exhibited longest value ((25.0±0.8)min), and SR sample exhibited shortest value ((7.7±1.9)min).Conclusion The results suggest that the Displacement Rheometer suits with determination of the working time and setting time of tissue conditioner. The method is useful for the evaluation of the setting behavior of these material.
