Abstract: In 1981, an electrophoretically slow moving hemoglobin variant was found by cellulose a cetate electrophoresis among the healthy people in Beijing. This a bnormal zone migrated between Hb A and Hb A2 and occupied a position in the Q group. Structure studies demonstrated that this homoglobin variant was Hb Q Thailand. Valla et al first reported Hb Q Thailand combined with Hb H in a chinese family of singa pore in 1958 without performing any structure analysis. This variant was subsequently reported in Thaiwan, Thailand, and Japan, and was named Hb G Thaichung (α74 (EF3) Asp→His) or Hb Q Thailand. Zheng first reported in main land of China. Up to now, many of this variant have been reported in the south, but has never been reported hitherto in the north.
