Abstract:

Objective To investigate the alterations of β-adrenoceptor subtypes in the duodenal mucosa of 6-hydroxydopamine(6-OHDA)-induced Parkinson's disease(PD) rat models. Methods Rats were subjected with 6-OHDA in bilateral substantia nigra(SN) to make the PD rat models. The location and quantitative detecting techniques including immunohistochemistry and real-time PCR were used to determine the alterations of β-adrenoceptor subtypes(β1, β2, β3) in the PD rats. Results All three subtypes of β-adrenoceptor were found to express in the epithelial layer of duodenum in the model and control rats. However, the levels of the three receptors were higher in model rats than those of control rats with the β2 subtype being most prominent. Conclusion The β-adrenoceptors(β1, β2, β3) are up-regulated in the duodenal mucosa of 6-OHDA-induced PD rats, suggesting a potential mechanism for the gastrointestinal dysfunction in PD.
