Abstract: Chronic atrophic gastritis (CAG) is a refractory digestive disease, which is listed as a high risk factor to gastric cancer. Up to date, the etiology and pathogenesis of CAG in modern medicine remains unclear, therefore no ideal treatment has been developed. Chinese medicine has certain advantages in treating CAG. It can not only improve the clinical symptoms of the patients, but also block and reverse the atrophy of gastric mucosa and intestinal metaplasia. In this article, we reviewed the progresses of CAG treatment with traditional Chinese medicine from the aspects of basic pathogenesis, syndrome differentiation and treatment, special prescriptions for diseases, acupuncture and moxibustion treatment, which shed light on treatment of CAG.
