The Application of Pectoralis Major Myocutaneous Flap in the Reconstruction of Oral-Maxillofacial Defects

Abstract: Clinical experience from the application of pectoralis major myocutaneous flap in the reconstruction of oral-maxillofacial defects in 20 cases were discussed in this article. Among the 20 cases, pedicle muscle in 11 cases, pedicle vascular in 8 cases, and pedicle myocutaneous in 1 case. The results were as follow: 16 cases survived, 3 cases partly survived, and 1 case failed, The largest size of the flaps was 10×14 cm2. The article described in detail the main points how to prepare the flaps, The categories and indications of the pedicle, how to transfor the pedicle to the head and neck and how to fixation the myocutaneous flap, The reason and prevention of the necrosis of the flaps was also discused.
