Abstract: Indirect immunoperoxidase assay (IIP) technique was used to detect specific antibodies in sera of 79 cases of acute amebiasis. The second antibody used in the test consisted of horseradish peroxidase conjugated to protein A. Fifty eight cases of amebic liver abscess tested all showed positive reaction to IIP, and the titre ranged from 1:128 to 1:4096; 21 cases of acute amebic dysentery tested were also all positive but the titre ranged from 1:64 to 1:4096 only. One patient of liver cancer in the control series (52 cases) showed a mild positive reaction (1:64). IIP assay was not as sensitive as ELISA, but it does not require the use of axenic culture of E.histolytica.
