Developmental Characteristics of Electrical Properties in Cultured Rat Brain Neurons

The rat brain neurons taken from 15～17 days embryo were grown in dissociated cell culture and maintained in vitro for 3 weeks. The developmental process of the neurons was observed from early stage of development in terms of passive and active electrical properties. The neurons’ development could be morphological divided into stanes Ⅰ (from plating time to 6 days), Ⅱ(7～11 days), Ⅲ(12～21 days), and Ⅳ(21～22 days). The relative value of resting membrane potentials (RMP) for stages Ⅰ,Ⅱ ,Ⅲ , and Ⅳ was 1, 3.46, 4.07 and 6.54, respectively; the corresponding value of input resistances (Rin) was 1, 1.48, 2.53 and 4.56 respectively. The current-voltage curve in stages Ⅱ and Ⅲ was exponential in the direction of depolarization and the Rin’s change with time was nearly linear. Occurrence rate of spontaneous activitywas increased with prolongation of culture and the amplitude of evoked action potentials reached maximum during stages Ⅲ and Ⅳ. The results indicate that potassium ion channels develop slower in stages Ⅱ, faster in stagds Ⅰand Ⅲ and mature by the end of stage Ⅳ.

Histochemical and Immunohistochemical Changes of Thyroid Follicles During Liver Injury and Regeneration Following Injecting D-galactosamine

72 adult male rats were divided into 2 groups, i. e. control group and D-galactosamine administration group. The thyroids were removed at different time intervals (1, 2, 3, 5, 7 and 10 days) after injecting D-galactosamine, and then stained with histochemical and immunohistochemical PAP method. The findings were as follows. On the first to 3 rd day after injecting D-galactosamine, the lumen of the follicles were enlarged, follicular epithelial cells became short, the amount of colloid deposits were increased. Except the ATPase, the reac-tions of RNA, ACP, SDH, G6PDH and PO Were Weaker than those of the control group. Both of the amount of colloid droplets and the Immunoreaction substances of T₃ and T₄ declined. Although on the 5 th day, all of the indexes increased, they returned to normal level after 7 days. The results were suggested that the changes of the thyroid follicles following injecting D-galactosamine were closely related to the iniury and the regeneration process of liver.

This paper reports the proteins and isoenzyme paterns of esterase (EST) and lactate dehdrogenase (LDH) of the human and hog cerbral cysticerci. The cystic fluid of the human and hog cysticerci gave 10 and 9 bands by PAGE respectively, and the main bands in the human were 2 and in the hog only 1. The scolex-cyst Wall of two species of hosts displaied 18 and 16 bands with similar patterns by PAGE. 12 bands appeared in the cystic fluid of muscle of the hog, but only 2 appeared in that of the human having migratory rates distinctively differences with that of the former. The cystic fluid from two species of hosts gave 4 LDH bands with slightly differences of migration and 1 EST band with identical patterns. The scolex-cyst wall of two species of hosts displaied 2 LDH bands and 3 EST bands with different rates of migration. We compared the activities of LDH and EST at the same time.

It is reported in this paper that the mice infected with P.y.y. game-tocytes were administe red for a dose of MP0090 5mg and 10mg/kg respe-ctively, 2 hours later, they were blood-mealed by Anopheles stephensi. We dissected the mosquito’s midguts on the 7th, 9th and 11th day, and observed them under TME. It was seen that the number of oocysts affected by the two doses decreased evidently. The growth of oocysts was rest-rained. As a result, there were numerous vacuoles in the oocyst, and the normal structure almost disappeared. The sporozoites also presented vacuoles markedly. The results showed that the drug MP0090 can inhibit sporogony indirectly, and the inhibition can become stronger with the increase of the concentration of the drug.

His bundle electrograms of 26 rabbit hearts in situ were statically analysed. The results are as follows. P-A, A-H, H-V intervals and the duration of the H wave were 11±7, 36±6, 20±3 and 7±3 msec respec-tively. By comparing the percentage of each component in P-R interval of the rabbit with that of the corresponding one of man, it was found that both the A-H intervals as well as the H-V intervals accounted for very similar proportion.

In rabbits under local anesthesia and immobilization extrasystales and elevation of arteral blood pressure could be provoked by stimulation of the Lateral Hypothalamic Area (LHA) and Ventromedial Hypothalamic Nucleus (VMH) with 15～70μA, 70Hz and 1ms duration square wave current. They have relatively differential. Brady-arrythmias, bradycardias, sinus cadiac arrest and block, could be provoked and its produce rade was higher during stimulation of LHA; on the other hand, tacky-arrythmias, frequent Hypothalamic stimulation-induced Ventricular Extrasystale (HVE) and tackycardias could be provoked and its produce rate Was higher during stimulation of VMH. Stimlus-eveked brady-arrythmia of LHA or VMH could be deleted or damped by injection Atropine of bilateral vagotomy, but stimulus-evoked tacky-arrhythmai of VMH could be deleted of damped. Stimulus-evoked tacky-arrythmia of VMH of LHA could be abated or damped by injection of Phentolamin and/or Propranolol, but stimulus-evoked brady-arrythmia of LHA could even more be enhanced of facilitied.

This paper reports our investigation of the possibility of the ultiliza-tion of the Bioluminesceht (BL) technique to substitute the traditional viability count of CFU of current BCG vaccine. First of all we established the basic method of BL technique. Secondly we extracted BCG-ATP with ultrasomic-chloro form method, and got the satisfactory resulte. Our results showed: 1. there was significant dose-dependent-correlation between the concentration of standard ATP and ATP BL value; 2. The correlation coefficient values of BL and CFU of liquid and freezedried vaccine Vere found to be 0.8155 and 0.8484 respectively (p<0.05); 3. The coefficients of varialion (CV) between the BL value of ATP obtained by different lots was 3.2～4.4%, this value is much lower than of CFU (CV=10.4～ 11.2%); 4. The presence of bacterial clumps Within the vaccine has showed to have great influence on the ATP BL values and the CFU (Viabi-lity) count. According to the results, we consider that the BL method can be subs-titute for CFU method, and the BL method has not only showed high sen-sitivity, reproducibility and simplicity but also with high accuracy.

11 cases of Brain stem tumour were reported. Disturbance of ocular mo-vement, dysphagy, Weakness of extremity & unstable gait are common. MRI was performed in 8 cases of them. Abnormal findings were seen in all. The MKI features of most Brain stem tumours are long T₁ & long T₂. The middle sagittal section shows the fullest batail. MRI is considereda better diagriostic procedure than CT scan.

Applying Indirect Immunoperoxidase Assay for Diagnosing Amebiasis

Indirect immunoperoxidase assay (IIP) technique was used to detect specific antibodies in sera of 79 cases of acute amebiasis. The second antibody used in the test consisted of horseradish peroxidase conjugated to protein A. Fifty eight cases of amebic liver abscess tested all showed positive reaction to IIP, and the titre ranged from 1:128 to 1:4096; 21 cases of acute amebic dysentery tested were also all positive but the titre ranged from 1:64 to 1:4096 only. One patient of liver cancer in the control series (52 cases) showed a mild positive reaction (1:64). IIP assay was not as sensitive as ELISA, but it does not require the use of axenic culture of E.histolytica.

The lower one-third of the leg consists of a tight skin directly cove-ring bone and musculotendinous stuctures. Soft tissue defects in this area are difficult to repair. However the method of using bipedicle gastro-cnemius musculocutaneous flap to repir soft tissue defect on the lower one-third of the leg is good. The reported 4 cases of open fracture of the leg with soft tissue defect had been treated with this method and had obtained satisfactory results. The plenty circulation from the proxi-mal end of the flap allows the distal pedicle to become narrow and therefore be ahle to advance without jeopardizing the blood supply. This paper discussed the principles of designing the flap and its clinical ap-plication.

Evaluation of Right Ventricular Function in Patient with Chronic Cor Pulmonale by Gamma Cardiac Function Device

This report presents the results of right ventricular function of pati-ents with chronic cor pulmonale using ^113mIn in equilibrium method by gamma cardiac function device. The results demenstrate that the right ve-ntricular ejection fraction(RVEF) in 5 normal subjects is 50.8±7.9%, RVEF in 7 patients in clinically compensated stage of heart function is 57±3.5% and in 24 patients with heart failure Ⅰ°is 43±4.3%, in 12 pati-ents with heart failure Ⅱ°is 33±7.2%, in 8 patients with heart failure Ⅲ°is 28±0.5% and in 7 patients with the type of the serious heart fai-lure(more severe than heart failure Ⅲ°) is 14±2.7%. Except for compensa-ting heart function group, other groups are significantly different from that of normal group(p<0.05 or p<0.01). Our results suggest that gamma cardiac function device be used to assess heart dysfunction of patients with chronic cor pulmonale in various stages and to be reference for heart function graduation.
