Detection of Viral Sequences in DNA Extracted from Pathological Tissues of Carcinoma Cervix by Using 32P-Labelled Human Papillomavirus DNA Probes

Abstract: Southern blot analysis of human papillomavirus genome was carried out on 33 cases of human cervical specimens histologically diagnosed as cervical cacinoma (26 cases), condyloma acuminatum (1 case), vulvar carcinoma (1 case) and chronic inflammation (4 cases). 69% of cervical carcinoma were found to be positive for HPV DNA. Among them 23% (6/26) were positive for HPV 16,7.6% (2/26) were positive for HPV 18 and 11.5% (3/26) were positive for HPV X1.
