Abstract: Study on mutagenic effects of artificially fermented Cordyceps sinensis(AFCS) was carried out by three mutagenicity tests, namely, bone marrow cell micronucleus assay, spermatocyte aberration analysis in mice and Ames test. There were no significant difference betweenthe frequencies of micronuclei in three dosed groups and that in controls.Similarly, spermatocyte aberration analysis also showed negative result. In Ames test, the sample did not show any direct or indirect-acting mutagenicity to the test strains. The results demonstrate that AFCS does not have mutagenic effects on both somatic and reproductive cells of mice, and also,on salmonella strains.
