Real-Time Ultrascopic Study on Liquid Evacuation Ability of Stomach in₅₀ Healthy Individuals

Abstract

Abstract: Gastric emptying of 500 mLwarm water(37 ℃)was studied by real time ultrasonography in 50 healthy volunteers. The emptying rate was found to be decreased with the time after meal. The change of upper gastric body(USB)is more visible than that of gastric antrum(GA). The emptying rate of USBin male was higher than in female during the first 30 minutes after meal. Anegative correlation between the age and the width of USBand GAexisted only female. Two mathematical models were developed to describe respectively the USBdecrease after meal in both sexes.
