Abstract: Eighteen patients with symptomatic leiomyoma were treated with 25 mg of RU486 daily for 3 months. All women were amenorrheic during the course of treatment. Leiomyoma volume decreased 36.9% after 3 moths′treatment. Compared with pretreatment values, RU486 treatment induced a decrease of serum P, but FSH, LH and E2 and remained unchanged. The study indicates that 25 mg of RU486 daily can induce a significant decrease in leiomyoma volume, and it may prove to be an assistant mode of treatment for uterine leiomyoma.

Key words: uterine leiomyoma, RU486, reproductive hormone
