Abstract: A method of com bined motor and somatosensory evoked potentials was used to continuously monitor in spinal cord surgery and 13 patients were obtained. The result showed that com bined MEP and SEP monitoring could truely indicate the integrity of spinal cord functions, MEPs were more valid than SEPs, but SEPs were more sensitive, the changes of EPs were related to the pathology and anatomy of spinal cord diseases, the gradual improvement of SEPs presaged good prognosis.

Key words: spinal cord, motor evoked potential, somatosensory evoked potential, intraoperative monitoring, electrical stimulation
