Proliferation Effects of bFGF on Rabbit Articular Chondrocyte Culture in Vitro

Abstract: The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of bFGF on rabbit articular chondrocyte culture in vitro, so that the study could help search a clue of treatment for repair of cartilagious injury. Chondrocytes were isolated from articular cartilage of 1～3 d old New Zealand rabbit. Condrocytes were seeded at different densities of in 10 mL 1640 medium with different concentration of bFGF, to observe the proliferation effects of bFGF on chondrocytes and the best concentration of bFGF for stimulatory proliferation and to measure the amount of incorporation of 3H- thymidine. The amount of chondrocyte increased with increase of concentration of bFGF and the best concentration of bFGF was 10～15 μg/L for stimulatory proliferation. The amount of incorporation of 3H- thymidine was greater in chondrocyte culture grown with bFGF than that tacking bFGF(P<0.05). bFGF exerts a strong effect on proliferation of cultured chondrocytes and the best concentration of bFGF was 10～15 μg/L.
