To explore the effect of extract ginkgo biloba(EGB)on the dynamic expression of nitric oxide(NO)in the neuron apoptosis following hypoxia/reoxygenation(H/R), cerebral neurons of fetal Wistar rats were primarily isolated and cultured. Apoptosis of cultured cerebral cortical neurons following H/R was detected with Tunel and Flow cytometry method. The dynamic changes of NO metabolite nitrite(NO

Substance P(SP)and vasoactive intestinal peptide(VIP)levels in all layers of initial part of ileum in rats were measured by radioimmunoassays(RIA)in order to explore the mechanism of spleen deficiency(SD).SP levels in ileum of experimental SD rats were significantly higher than that of the control groups(
P
<0.005)while the VIP levels in ileum of SD rats were significantly lower than the control groups(
P
<0.05). In spontaneous recovery cases, SP levels recovered significantly(compared with the SD rats,
P
<0.001)and did not drop down to normal until the VIP levels recovered significantly. After the SD rats were treated with Chinese herbs(Sijunzi Tang), SP was improved(compared with the SD cases,
P
<0.001)and returned to normal(compared with the controls,
P>
0.10). So the results showed that changes of SP and VIP levels in initial part of ileum of SD rats may be closely related to the gastrointestinal motility disorders presented in SD and the Chinese herbs(Sijunzi Tang)currently used has a partially therapeutic effect.

The present work aims at adducing further proof of the neurotrophic effect of β amyloid(Aβ)precursor protein(APP)319~335(APP17 mer peptide), through studying the effect of APP17 mer peptide on the neurotoxicity of Aβ, and thereby providing scientific evidence for the pathogenesis of AD and its treatment. APP17 mer peptide and Aβ
25-35
were synthesized by solid phase method and purified by HPLC. Human neuroblastoma cells SY5Y were segregated into 3 groups: normal control group, Aβ
25-35
(10μmol/L)damaged group, and Aβ
25-35
(10μmol/L)+APP17 mer peptide(10μmol/L)for neuroprotection group. Cell count, MTT metabolic rate, LDH leakage rate, axonal length, area of cell body, NT 3 immunohistorychemical staining and concentration of cytosolic calcium(Ca
2+
)were used as indicators. Compared with normal control group, Aβ
25-35
damaged group showed reduced cell count and MTT metabolic rate, increased LDH leakage rate, diminished axonal length and area of cell body, reduced NT 3 expression, increased concentration of cytosolic calcium(Ca
2+
), but the addition of APP17 mer peptide normalized the foregoing changes. APP17 mer peptide is neurotrophic. It can diminished neurotoxicity of Aβ.

The effects of puerarin(pue), an effective component of a Chinese herb, against astrocyte swelling in cultures and brain edema intact rats were studied. Astrocyte swelling in culture was induced with trans-1-aminocyclopentane-1, 3-dicarboxylic acid(tACPD), an agonist of metabotropic glutamate receptors. tACPD(1mmol/L)alone or with pue(1mmol/L)were added in culture at 37 ℃ for 1 h, then the intracellular water space(IWS)was measured by
3
H-3-O-methyl-
D
-glucose. For in vivo study, brain edema was induced with tACPD(500nmol)in 2 μL injected stereotactically into right caudatum of the rat. Pue(50mg/kg)was administered intraperitoneally on the 1st and 2nd day, and intravenously on the 3rd day, then followed by intracaudatal injection of tACPD. Sixh after tACPD injection brain water content and Na
+
, K
+
, Ca
2+
contents were determined. Histological study was performed with electron microscope(EM). It was showed that pue blocked the increase of IWS induced by tACPD in astrocyte culture and reduced the increases of brain water and Na
+
contents induced by tACPD in vivo. Furthermore, astrocyte swelling and the constriction of capillary lumen induced by the pressure of swelling endfeet of astrocytes, which were observed in tACPD treated rats under EM, were attenuated by pue treatment. The results indicats that pretreatment with pue can prevent astrocyte swelling and brain edema induced by tACPD, which may be beneficial to brain microcirculation during hypoxia and ischemia.

To study the effect of thyrotropin releasing hormone analogue, YM14673, on c fos protein expression in rat hippocampus following cerebral ischemia, cerebral ischemia was produced by occlusion of middle cerebral artery(MCA)and bilateral common carotid arteries(CCAs)with small aneurysmal clips for 1 h in wistar rats. Cerebral coronal section(10 μm)was routinely stained with hematoxylin eosin(HE)and immunohistochemical stained with standard streptavidin biotin AP technique . YM14673(1 mg/kg, ip, 30 min prior to occlusion)decreased the degeneration of neurons in the cerebral cortex at 1 h of MCA/CCAs occlusion with 24 h of reperfusion. Most of the pyramidal cells in CA4, and dentate granule cells showed intense c fos protein like immunoreactivity(CFPLI)at 1 h of MCA/CCAs occlusion with 4 h of reperfusion. YM14673 attenuated the c fos protein induction in CA4 regions and dentate gyrus at 1 h of MCA/CCAs occlusion with 4 h of reperfusion. The results show that YM14673 has certain inhibiting function on the expression of c fos in the hippocampal regions post-is-chemia.

To elucidate the clinical value of expression of proliferating cell nuclear antigen(PCNA)and Ki67 in brain astrocytomas, the immunostaining of PCNA and Ki67 in 38 astrocytomas were performed by Streptavidin-Peroxidase(SP)method. The result showed the difference of PCNA labeling index(PCNA LI)between tumor grades were statistically significant(
P
<0.05)except those in group Ⅲ and group Ⅳ. In general,PCNA LI increased with tumor grade. Though total variance of Ki67 LI among tumor grades was remarkable(
P
< 0.05), there were no significant difference among groupⅠ and Ⅱ and group Ⅲ and Ⅳ. The mean tumor volume had a positive correlation with PCNA LI(
r
=0.97,
P
< 0.05). It can be concluded that the expression of PCNA at protein level assessed half quantitatively by immunohistochemistry combined with pathology seem to give reliable information about biological behavior including proliferative potential, growth patterns and histological feather of astrocytomas.

To study the different medication of traumatic brain edema in rats, 54 rats in which the models of traumatic brain edema were induced by Feeney's extradural impact were divided into six groups randomly. Different groups were treated with special drugs and different dosages. The study observed the changes of the blood-brain barrier with Evans Blue and the water content of the brain after the brain injury in rats. Injury areas were observed by pathological techniques in the experiment. The decreases of injury area and the water content of the brain after the brain injury were the most evident in the groups that were treated with large-dosage mannitol. It was proved by the pathological observation that brain injury was the lightest in the asme groups. Curative effect of little dosage mannitol and frusemin used together can last for a long time. Mannitol is the most effective drug in treating acute traumatic brain edema , but little dosage mannitol and frusemin used together is the best choice after mannitol was used solely five to six times.

Thirty patients with mild to moderate essential hypertension were treated with losartan(50 mg/d)for 4 weeks. Clinical blood pressure(CBP)and ambulatory blood pressure monitoring(ABPM)were performed at before and after the treatment to compare the mean blood pressure of 24 h, daytime and night, the load of the blood pressure and the circadian rhythm. Results: CBP, the load of blood pressure and the mean blood pressure of 24 h, daytime and night were significantly reduced. No significant difference was found in heart rate. The effective rate dependent CBP was 70.0%. There were significant decreases in every hour blood pressure. There was less effect on night blood pressure, but the circadian rhythm wasn′t significantly changed. The trough to peak ratios for SBP and DBP were more than 70%. The result shows that losartan could significantly and safely decrease the blood pressure. It might maintain normal circadian rhythm of the blood pressure.

To evaluate ventricular function of patients after VVI pacing, 20 patients after VVI pacing and 19 controls were studied by gated cardiac blood pool imaging. There was no significant difference in the parameters of systolic function(LVEF?RVEF?LVPER?LV1/3EF?LV1/3ER)between VVI group and control group(
P>
0.05). There was no difference in the parameters of diastolic function(LVPFR?LV1/3FF)between the two groups either(
P>
0.05). LV1/3FR of the VVI group was significantly higher than that in the control group(
P
<0.05). The parameters of left ventricular systolic coordination(PS and LVPHSD)were significantly lower after VVI pacing than the control group(
P
<0.01). The results suggest that the left ventricular systolic coordination of patients after VVI pacing is lower and ventricular function remains stable.

This study investigated the influence of hemodialyzer membranes on apoptosis of peripheral blood mononuclear cell. PBMC were seperated from whole blood donated by healthy volunteers . They were incubated in vitro in the presence of either CU membrane or Gambrane membrane . Control cells were incubated in absence of HD membranes. The cells were collected at regular intervals. PBMC apoptosis were evaluated with flowing cetometric analysis. The results indicated that the apoptosis of PBMC in each group increased more obviously than that before the incubation 48 h ago. Apoptosis of CU group was(36.31±1.40)%, significantly higher than other two groups(
P
<0.05). CU membrane, a bioincompatible HD membrane, can induce the isolated PBMC to apoptosis more easily than others.

The study is to observe the changes of gastric motility and motilin in diabetic gastroparesis(DGP)and to determine the effects of cisapride therapy in DGP. Twelve normals and 32 diabetic patients participated. Basal gastric motility was studied in both groups and plasma motilin(MTL)concentration was studied in each phases of MMC. Thirty-two diabetic patients were equally divided into 2 groups. Cisapride was orally administered in group one while non prokinetic drug was administered in group two as the control. The same examination was carried out in both groups. Results: ① In diabetic patients, abnormal MMC was characterized by absence of phase 3, prolongation of phase 2, decrease of motor index of phase 2 and amplitude of phase 3. ② In the control group, MTL concentration fluctuated in phases of MMC and reached a peak level in late phase 2. The MTL concentrations of patients were significantly higher than that of the control group and had normal cyclic fluctuations of MTL. ③ After cisapride treatment, MTL concentration were reduced significantly, and the contractile activity, amplitudes in phase 3 and motor index of phase 2 were increased significantly. It showed that gastric motility was depressed in diabetes. Abnormal motility in DGP might not be related to MTL deficiency. Cisapride administration in DGP can improve gastric motility and decrease MTL concentration.

This study explored the pathogenesis of myasthenia gravis(MG)complicated wity epilepsy. The study analyzed the clinical manifestation and experimental results of 15 MG patients complicated wity epilepsy. The attack of epilepsy occurred with the aggravation of the clinical symptom of MG and relived with the improvement of MG respectively. The levels of CSF IgG and the CSF IgG 24 h synthetic rate in the group with MG complicated with epilepsy(MG+EPI)were higher than those in the other two groups, the group of MG without EPI(MG-EPI)and the control group. The attack of epilepsy is related with the abnormally synthetic acetylcholine receptor antibody(AchRab)in the central nervous system.

Eighty cases of ecchordosis physaliphora were analyzed, of whom 22 cases were found to have symptoms of ear-nose-throat, which account for 27.5% of the total. There were 13 cases with initial symptoms of ear-nose-throat, which accounted for 16.25%. This indicates that ecchordosis physaliphora may cause ear-nose-throat symptoms. Clinical data analysis reveals that the symptoms of ear-nose-throat caused by ecchordsis physaliphora often last for a long time. It is difficult to make a definite diagnosis for those patients with tinnitus, nasal obstruction and problems on laryngeal part of pharynx. For those young patients who have not intracranial hypertension, and no improvement on ear-nose-throat symptoms after treatment, doctors should give them a CT/MRI examination in time, so as to rule out the possibility of suffering from ecchordosis physaliphora.
