Abstract: The aim was to investigate the reationship between expression of pancreatitis-associated protein and cell DNA ploidy in colorectal cancer tissues. All fresh samples were obtained from 27 colorectal adenocarcinoma patiens. The expression of PAP mRNA was examined by reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction(RT-PCR), while the s-phase fraction(SPF) and ploidy of DNA were examined by flow cytometry(FCM). In this assay, PAP mRNA was detected in 8(29.6%) colorectal cancer tissues, for these samples SPF was 18.91±8.43, and had 7 aneuploid cancer tissues. However only 4 aneuploid cases were found in 19 patients who had negative expression of PAP mRNA in cancer tissues and the value of SPF was 12.11±7.02. On the other hand, expression of PAP mRNA and aneuploid tissues were not detected in noncancerous portions. For DNA ploidy and SPF, there was significant difference between PAP mRNA positive and negative cancer tissues. So these PAP mRNA positive cancer tissues have higher proliferative active. But there is no relationship between PAP mRNA expression and clinicopathological factors.
