Abstract:

Objective To investigate the safety and the efficacy of Houttuynia Herb on RSV infection in vitro. Methods To determine the toxicity of Houttuynia Herb injection on Hep2 monolayer cells with MTT colorimetry. The inhibiting effects of Houttuynia Herb injection on RSV infected Hep2 cells were observed by Plaque forming unit(PFU) assay and the method of CPE in cuvette. The Ribavirin was used as control. Results The maximal concentration(1:10) of Houttuynia was safe to Hep2 cells and did not affect the configuration and development of Hep2 cells. Both Houttuynia(1:10) and Ribavirin 5 mg/L could inhibit 100TCID50 RSV completely and inhibit 1 000TCID50 RSV in half. The effects of two drugs could also make the viral plaques smaller or reduced obviously. Conclusion Houttuynia Herb injection is safe for culture cells and can inhibit RSV which infected Hep2 monolayer cells in vitro.
