Abstract: Objective To investigate the effects of supine hypotension syndrome on newborns by the neonatal cord blood gas analysis during caesarean section. Methods Eighty pregnant women who were assigned for caesarean section with combined spinal and lumber anesthesia were divided into two groups: group Ⅰ(control group, systolic blood pressure ≥100 mmHg) and groupⅡ(hypotension group, systolic blood pressure <100 mmHg). The mothers' arterial blood and the neonatal umbilical cord blood were taken for blood gas analysis, and the newborns' one minute Apgar scores were recorded. Results Mothers’ blood gas analysis and newborns' one minute Apgar scores had no significant difference respectively(P>0.05) between the two groups, umbilical cord blood gas analysis of newborns in hypotension group were significantly worse than that of the control group, the blood gas values pH, PO2, BE in hypotension group were significantly lower than those of the control group, and PCO2 in hypotension group was significantly higher than that of the control group. The number of the newborns with low umbilical artery pH in hypotension group was more than that of the control group. Conclusion Hypotension in caesarean section is detrimental to the fetus, therefore it should be corrected actively.
Key words: caesarean section, supine hypotension syndrome, cord blood gas analysis
