Abstract: In order to evaluate clinical features and levels of aspartate aminotranferase(AST)in gingival crevicular fluid of gingivitis in adolescents, 21 healthy and 28 gingivitis subjects, age range from 10 to 16, were selected. The clinical parameters were examined and recorded. Within each subject, the gingival crevicular fluid(GCF)sample was collected. The value of GCF and AST were measured by biochemical analysis instrument. The clinical parameters of gingivitis in adolescents were the plaque control record(PCR): 73%, oral hygine index(OHI): Ⅱ(36%), Ⅲ(64%); gingival index(GI):Ⅰ(25%), Ⅱ(43%), Ⅲ(32%)and gingival bleeding(GBI): 54%. The amounts of GCF, GCF-AST were significantly higher in samples from gingivitis group than in the healthy group. Gingivitis in adolescents have a risk of disease progress. AST in GCF may also be a useful marker for gingivitis tendency.
