Correlation between the expression of cytokeratin in colorectal cancer and clinicopathological features

Abstract: Objective To explore the expression of cytokeratin in colorectal cancer and its relationship with clinicopathological features. Methods A total of 200 specimens with colorectal carcinoma confirmed by surgery and postoperative pathology were selected, and corresponding adjacent normal tissues were selected as controls. The expression of CK7,8,18-20 in colorectal cancer tissues and in adjacent normal tissues were detected by immunohistochemistry. Their correlation with pathological characteristics and general information was compared. Results CK7 was not expressed in cancer tissues and adjacent normal tissues. The positive expression rates of CK8 and 18-20 in tumor tissues were significantly higher than those in the corresponding adjacent normal tissue (all P<0.05). The expression of CK8 in cancer tissue was positively correlated with the depth of tumor invasion. The expression of CK19 was positively correlated with lymph node metastasis. The expression of CK20 was negatively correlated with the degree of tumor differentiation. Conclusion The expression levels of CK8, 19 and 20 are closely related to tumor invasion, lymph node metastasis and differentiation. The expression levels of CK8, 19 and 20 are significant in judging the malignant degree of colorectal cancer.
