The task of health-care in rural areas is directly related to the peasants’ health, the agricultural economic development and social stability. In this paper, based on the status of lacking medical personnel and training qualified medical personnel as the goal in rural areas of the Capital of PR China, the research and practice on cultivating medical personnel in rural areas were performed. Since the early 1970s, the Respiratory Department of Beijing Chaoyang Hospital, embodying the National Respiratory Key Disciplines, has developed its independent institution of 3Grade Respiratory Discipline. After decades of efforts and contributions of generations, it became one of national-level key disciplines in 2007. The past decade has witnessed the innovative development of ICU and respiratory support technology, a modern discipline mode combined with critical care medicine actively advocated, a further impetus to comprehensive study on pulmonary embolism and pulmonary vascular disease, which has opened up a new horizon in this academic area in China. The Respiratory Department of Beijing Chaoyang Hospital has been committed to the social responsibilities, making great contribution in coping with newly emerging respiratory contagious diseases. It has also been dedicated to respiratory diseases prevention, nationwide tobacco control and the establishment of clinical smoking cessation system. In particular, through the collaborative effort of multiple disciplines to attain optimal treatment for endstage lung diseases, it has taken the initial lead in lung transplantation in China. Aiming at the inspiration sources and engine of China’s respiratory academics, the Respiratory Department of Beijing Chaoyang Hospital has put in great efforts to improve China’s respiratory disciplinary construction and development. The hospital authorities have also been attaching great importance to the cultural construction of the Respiratory Discipline. Department of Cardiology of Capital Medical University has been painstakingly constructed for 50 years, and has achieved fruitful outcomes both in clinical and research work. Considering the common threat of cardiovascular disease against the health of the public and the weakness aspects in this area, we focused our research on cardiovascular disease epidemiology, early diagnosis and treatment strategies of coronary heart disease, radical cure of atrial fibrillation, use of integrated traditional and western medicine in cardiovascular disease and formed a new preventioncure mode. Following the situation in our medical system reform, we carried out a largescale survey of risk factors for cardiovascular disease and explored new relative factors, combined prevention with treatment to establish a communitycontrol model of cardiovascular disease. Stable research teams, reasonable echelon structure and satisfactory academic atmosphere laid the foundation for sustainable development in discipline construction.

This essay presents a general introduction of the evolution of the National Neurology Key Discipline and the great academic heritage inherited from the Capital Medical University in 50 years. The introduction emphasizes revolutionary and leap-style progresses that the National Neurology Key Discipline of Capital Medical University has made during the past decade in three major fields as follow: scientific research, clinical medicine and personnel training. The history of the National Neurology Key Discipline can be divided into three stages: from 1978 to 1988, a solid foundation was laid to make a substantial beginning; from 1988 to 1998, a quick development was realized in the crucial period; from 1998 to 2008, academic and clinical ambitions were achieved on the basis of profound accumulation and quick development. In conclusion, the National Neurology Key Discipline has made a series of achievements in the three areas of medicine, research and education, and it holds a leading position in neurology field due to the staffs’ excellent performance, science-leading orientation, and clinical expertise. The National Neurology Key Discipline relies on well-known specialists, it also built a firstclass medical team with three generations of the old, middle-aged and young talents, and therefore it has the capacity to provides high quality medical service for the society. The National Neurology Key Discipline attaches great importance to talent training so as to build a well-structured talent echelon, and thus sustainable development could be maintained. “Key Laboratory for Neurodegenerative Diseases of Ministry of Education(Capital Medical University)” was founded in 2005, mainly depending on Xuanwu Hospital Beijing Brain Aging Key Laboratory and Capital Medical University Beijing Nerve Regeneration and Repair Key Laboratory. The research direction of this lab is the basic and clinical application studies of neurodegenerative diseases(Alzheimer's disease and Parkinson's disease). The Key Laboratory of Cardiovascular Remodeling Related Diseases of the Ministry of Education was founded in 2010 at the Department of Cardiology, Capital Medical University. The main laboratory is located at Beijing Institute of Heart, Lung and Blood Vessel Diseases. The Key Laboratory integrates both cardiovascular clinical and basic researches.
