Abstract: On September 11, 2018, the winners of Lasker Awards 2018 were announced. The Albert Lasker Basic Medical Research Award honored to molecular biologist C. David Allis from Rockefeller University and biochemist Michael Grunstein from the University of California. The two scientists have elucidated how gene expression are influenced by chemical modification of histones. Their discovery unveiled a previously hidden layer of gene control, therefore, established a novel field of the epigenetic control of gene expression. The 2018 Lasker Koshland Award for Special Achievement in Medical Science honored Joan A. Steitz, a molecular biologist and biochemist at Yale University. She contributed the leadership as well as a role model in biomedical science, predominantly in RNA biology.

Key words: Lasker Awards, chemical modification of histones, gene expression, RNA biology
