Abstract: The distribution of AChE activity in the cerebellum of the rabbit was studied in 11 ani-mals. A modified classical histochemical technique was used for showing the activity of AChE in frontal, sagittal and horizontal sections of the cerebellum. In the cerebellar cortex, the granular layer was generally shown to have rather strong activity of AChE while the Purkinje cell’s layer and the superficial part of the molecular layer were negative for AChE reaction. Like those in the white matter, the activity of AChE in the deep part of the mole-cular layer was rather weak. In addition, there were many AChE-positive neurons in the molecular layer of the posterior lobe, most of them were concentrated in the lobule X. In the white matter of the cerebellum, there were 5 longitudinal zones showning relatively strong activity of AChE paralleled to the midplane. Among them, the intermedian zone on the mid-plane of the vermis could be seen in all lobules except lobules Ⅵ and Ⅶ. The medial zones were symmetrically located in the lobules Ⅱ~Ⅴof anterior lobe and lobules Ⅷ, and the lateral zones only in the sublobules IXc and IXd of the posterior lobe, Also, a strong AChE activity was found in the cerebellar nuclei. The activity of BuChE was demonstrated in the glial cells of the granular layer and the white matter in which a little stronger reaction of BuChE were seen near the granular layer.
