Abstract: This paper reported the effect of ilexonine A (IA) administration in vitro on rabbit platelet aggregation induced by arachidonic acid (AA) in vitro, and the change of malon-dialdehyde (MDA)level in aggregated platelet suspension. The results showed that IA could inhibit platelet aggregation and MDA formation induced by AA. A certain correlation was shown, Between inhibiting rate of aggregation and decrease of MDA level, suggesting the antiplatelet effect of IA might be related to its inhibiton of the formation of MDA. According to MDA is the parameter of thromboxane A2 (TXA2) synthesis (TXA2 is an active metabo-lite of AA during platelet activation), we hypothesiz that IA might interfere with the TXA2, formation and it may be the mechanism of the antiplatelet effect of ilexonine A.
