Abstract: Soluble larve antigen of Trichinella spiralis was analysed by SDS-PAGE and Western blot. Preliminary examinations with pooled human sera taken from 39 cases of trichinosis rewealed 18 protein bands, and their molecular weights rangen from 80 to 30 kD. The molec-ular weight of the most prominent protein bands was 80,74,66,63,55,42 and 40 kD. A-mong them, only those with molecular weight of 66,63 and 55 kD were likely to be specific to Trictinella spiralis and of diagnostic value. The reactions of this soluble antigen with pooled sera of 35 cases of Schistosomiasis japonica showed 11 protein bands and their molecu-lar weights ranged from 42 to 25 kD. Sixty sera of normal individuals and 75 sera of patients with parasitic diseases other than Trichinosis all gave negative reactions. Thus Trichinellosis may be differentiated from Schistosomiasis by their diffences in protein bands.
