Abstract: T cell subsets in peripheral blood of 35 chronic patients with hepatitis C have been investigated through monoclonal antibody and APAAP assay. The results showed that the percentage of OKT3+ cells in patient group with hepatitis C had no difference and OKT4+,OKT8+ cells and OKT4/OKT8 ratio were lower than that of the control group. The percentage of OKT4+ cells and OKT4/OKT8 ratio in HBsAg negative patient group with hepatitis C were significantly lower than that of the control group. No difference was observed in the percentage of OKT8 cells. The percentages of OKT4+,OKT8+cells in HBsAg positive patient group with hepatitis C were significantly lower in comparison with control group and chronic active patient group with hepatitis B, but the OKT4/OKT8 ratio showed no difference. The percentage of OKT8+ cells was significantly lower as compared with HBsAg negative patient group with hepatitis C. These results indicated that T cell subsets in peripheral blood in patients with hepatitis C were obviously out of balance and the percentage of OKT8+ cells was significantly lower in hepatitis C patients co-infected with HBV.
