Abstract:

One ovary of the mouse aged 20 to 35 postnatal days was autotransplanted subcutaneously. The orthotopic ovary developed normally. The grafted ovary was found to be surrounded by a thick layer of connective tissue. Follicular necrosis began 2 days after transplantation. Alot of primodial follicles existed in the ovarian cortex on day 4. Numerous blood cells infiltrated in the necrotic area. Preantral follicles were found on day 7. On day 14 after transplantation, follicles developed and necrosis was changed to fibrous tissue. On the 28th day, many follicles in different stages of development, corpora lutea and interstitial gland could be detected. This study shows that the transplanted ovary can grow well and secret steroid hormones.
