he dorsal column nuclei consist of gracile, cuneate and external cuneate nuclei. The fiber projections from the spinal cord to the dorsal column nuclei were studied with anterograde transported phaseolus vulgaris leucoagglutinin (PHA-L ) in rat. In case of injections into the cervical enlargement the labeled fibers were seen in the lateral region of the dorsal part of the dorsal column (corticospinal tract in the ventral.part of the dorsal column) and labeled terminations were distributed in the cuneate and the external cuneate nuclei. In case of injections into the thoracic cord the labeled fibers could be found in the median region and labeledterminations in the medial part of cuneate nucleus and lateral part of gracile nudeus. In case of injections into the lumbar enlargement the labeled fibers were in the medial region and labeled terminations in most of the gracile nucleus. In case of injections into the sacral cord the labeled fibers were in the most medial region and labeled terminations in the most medial part of gracile nucleus. Experimental results showed that the fiber projections from the spinal cord to the dorsal column nuclei have distinct topographical distributions.

One ovary of the mouse aged 20 to 35 postnatal days was autotransplanted subcutaneously. The orthotopic ovary developed normally. The grafted ovary was found to be surrounded by a thick layer of connective tissue. Follicular necrosis began 2 days after transplantation. Alot of primodial follicles existed in the ovarian cortex on day 4. Numerous blood cells infiltrated in the necrotic area. Preantral follicles were found on day 7. On day 14 after transplantation, follicles developed and necrosis was changed to fibrous tissue. On the 28th day, many follicles in different stages of development, corpora lutea and interstitial gland could be detected. This study shows that the transplanted ovary can grow well and secret steroid hormones.

Direct stimulation of the crucian carp vagal lobe evoked two action potentials with different latencies in the Mauthner cell. One had a relatively long latency (0.4~0.5 ms). Stimulation of the vagal lobe at weak strength evoked a graded excitatory postsynaptic potential (EPSP). The other had a shorter latency (0.2~ 0.3 ms). Stimulation of the vagal lobe evoked directly an action potential. The results suggest that there might be a mutual nerve relationship between the vagal lobe and Mauthner cell. First ,there are inputs from the vagal lobe to Mauthner cell. Second ,there are inputs from Mauthner cell to the vagal lobe.

Futongwan(FTW),a traditional Chinese medicine, contains mainly Badou. In the dosage of 1.5 g/kg ,ig. it significiently increased the average amplitude of gastrointestinal slow wave and the total amplitude of gastric motion but had no marked effect on the intestinal motion in rat. In the dosage of 3.5g/kg ,ig. it significently increased the average amplitude of gastrointestinal slow wave and the total amplitude of gastrointestinal motion in rat. However,FTWin the above-mentioned two dosages had no marked effects on the frequency of gastrointestinal electric slow wave and motion.

Kunming mouse was chosen as the experimental animal. The levels of DOPA,DA,NE and EP in brain tissue were measured by high-performance liquid chromatography under acute repetitive hypoxia. As compared with the group Aof blank control without exposed to hypoxia ,group B of experimental control was exposured to hypoxia only once ,and group D of another experimental control was exposed acutely and repetitively to hypoxia for 4 times and then fed for 2 days, the levels of DAincreased significantly and that of DOPA,NE decreased markedly in experimental animals, group C ,acutely and repetitively exposed to hypoxia for 4 times; while the levels of catecholamines were similar between group A and D. There was no significant differences. The results indicated that catecholamines in brain might be involved in the development of tolerance in animals exposed to acute and repetitive hypoxia ,and the process might be a fast reversible response.

Monoclonal antibodies(Mabs)and polyclonal antisera (Pabs) were used for characterizing the LP Score of 8 H.alvei strains :①Two anti-KDO Mabs (clone 14,20) detected α-linked KDO side chain in several(6, 5) but not all of the LPS. ②Mabs and Pabs specific for the R1~R4 core of E.coli did not react to the LPS core of H.alvei. ③The Mab (WN1222-5) specific for the Rc chemistry core of E.coli reacted strongly with all LPS of H.alvei tested. We conclude that the LPS of H.alvei contains both eiptopes (α-linked KDO side chain,Rc corel similar to those occurring in E.coli, but they are different in the core (R1~R4)types.

The influence of air temperature, current and humidity on skin temperature under conditions of quiet and no thermal radiation was investigated by using the method of multiple linear regression. It showed that the influence of humidity was insignificant (P>0.05). After humidity was deleted,we established respectively the bivariate linear regression equations of skin temperature Y with respect to air temperature and velocity of current according to sex.We also forecasted the air temperature Y under specific air temperature and velocity of current.

Researches regarding the acute and sub-chronic toxicities of artificially fermented Cordyceps sinensis(AFCS) were conducted in this study. LD50 of oral AFCSin both rat and mice were over 10 g/kg BW. After 90 d feeding of wealing rats ,all dosed animals grew and developed well and the average body weight of each dosed group was slightly higher than that of controls. The routine blood test, serum biochemical measurements, organ/body ratios and pathological examinations of major organs of rats were also determined in this study. The results showed that there was no difference between these indexes of dosed groups and that ofcontrols. The results demonstrate that AFSC is basically a toxicity-free and safe substance for rats.

The effects of ginseng polysaccharides and polyactin A on erythrocyte deformability were studies in rabbits and rats. The results showed that ginseng polysaccharides and polyactin A could improve red-cell deformability. Comparing with the control group , there were remarkble differences in speed of filtration. In microcirculation, red cells can pass through those capillaries with diameters smaller than the red cells. This special ability plays an important role in microcirculation. The impaired erythrocyte deformability may increase the blood viscosity, decrease the volume of blood flow and lead to thrombosis. So,drugs that can raise the red cell deformability are effective for reducing blood viscosity and restraining thrombus formation.

Investigation on intestinal helminthiasis was carried out in 16571 preschoolers of 174 kindergartens in the Beijing proper. Among them, the infection rates of Enterobius vermicularis ,Ascaris lumbricoides and Strongyloides stercoralis were 10.4%,0.1% and 1.4% respectively. Twenty four kindergartens with higher infection rates of pinworm were divided into groups A and B. For controlling enterobiasis ,two different control schemes were undertaken:Selective chemotherapy (A) and the combination of selective chemotherapy and health education(B). The results showed that the pinworm average infection rate of children in group A dropped from 10.7% to 9.6% (P>0.05)and in group B the rate from 13.5% to 6.2% (P<0.01). The reduction rate of group B was higher than that of group A (P<0. 01). It could be concluded that comprehensive control scheme of selective chemotherapy and health education might be the most practical scheme for the control of enterobiasis at present.

In order to assese the relationship between Helicobacter pylori (HP) infection and gastroduodenal diseases in the elderly, we investigated 445 of the elderly and 2202 of the nonelderly with upper gastrointestinal symptoms, undergoing routine upper GIendoscopy.Biopsy speciments from the gastric antrum were taken to detect HP by histology (Giemsa staining) and (or) culture. It was shown that the prevalence of HPinfection not only increased from 65.1% in non-elderly group to 77.1% in elderly one, which the effect of age reach statistical significance (P<0.005), but was much higher than that of asymptomatic donor group(29%;P<0. 01). And in the elderly, the frequency of HPinfection in histologic gastritis and in gastric ulcer and the prevalence of chronic active gastritis, chronic atrophic gastritis, gastric ulcer and gastric carcinoma and intestinal metaplasia and dysplasia in gastritis were all much higher than that of the non-elderly group. We conclude that HP infection is responsible for some of gastroduodenal diseases in elderly and increases in prevalence with advancing age, suggesting a possible etiologic role for the bacterium in the histologic lesion.

Twenty cases of acute cytomegalovirus (CMV) hepatitis in previously healthy adults were reported. They accounted for 1.08% of all the acute hepatitis cases in the same period in our hospital. The patients, 12 males and 8 females, aged 19~45 (average 33.1), were seropositive for CMV specific IgM, serum viral markers associated with type A, B, C, D, E hepatitis and EB virus infection were all negative. The main clinical manifestations were fever in 10,fatigue in 18,anorexia in 19, nausea in 13,abdominal discomfort in 6,jaundice in 14,mild hepatomegaly in 7 and tenderness in 6,and enlarged cervical lymph nodes in one. There were mild to morderate elevation of serum alanine aminotrasferase (ALT) in 20,bilirubin in 14, and alkaline phosphotase (AKP) in 10 The symptoms subsided within 2~4 weeks, and serum transaminases returned to normal within 7~63 (26.8±12.5) hospital days in 19 cases, one was improved and discharged on the 12th hospital day. It suggests that detection of CMV specific IgM antibody might be important for the diagnosis and differential diagnosis of acute hepatitis of unknown etiology in adults.
