Abstract: The aim was to evaluate the indications, procedure and clinical value of classic intrafacial SEMM hysterectomy(CISH).Thirty-six women with benign gynecological disorders which needed uterine resection but remained cervix between March 2001 and July 2002 were assigned to a route of CISH on the basis of uterine size and score in operation.Operation time, blood loss, associated procedures, hospital stay and postoperative recovery were observed.CISH was successful in 97.2%(35/36) of women assigned to these groups.Transabdominal operation was performed in only 1 of 36 patients(2.78%).The average operating time was 103 min; Blood loss (50~150 mL) was lower than during conventional abdominal hysterectomy. The average hospital stay was 6 days. There were no complications found in all patients. The advantages of CISH are its minimum possibility of injury, reduced blood loss and a fast recovery period.Integrity of pelvic floor, vagina and cervix are maintained as far as possible with focus removal, thus preventing the subsequent development of cervix stump carcinoma. Therefore, CISH may be an optimal technique for benign uterine disease.
