Abstract: The aim was to study the effects of selenium on manganese with different valances altering lipid peroxidation in neuron cell SH-SY5Y. The cells were divided into five groups: the control, manganese(Ⅱ)-treated group, manganese(Ⅲ)-treated group and groups of the latter two disposed by selenium. After 4 h, all of the groups except the control were exposed to manganese for 24 h. All of the groups were detected by biochemical analysis such as enzyme activity. The activities of SOD, GSH-Px and the rats of the selenium-pretreated groups are significantly higher than that of manganese(Ⅱ) and manganese(Ⅲ)-treated group(P< 0.05). The content of MDA was also increased. The results show that selenium could inhibit manganese with different valance altering lipid peroxidation.
