The aim was to study the effects of selenium on manganese with different valances altering lipid peroxidation in neuron cell SH-SY5Y. The cells were divided into five groups: the control, manganese(Ⅱ)-treated group, manganese(Ⅲ)-treated group and groups of the latter two disposed by selenium. After 4 h, all of the groups except the control were exposed to manganese for 24 h. All of the groups were detected by biochemical analysis such as enzyme activity. The activities of SOD, GSH-Px and the rats of the selenium-pretreated groups are significantly higher than that of manganese(Ⅱ) and manganese(Ⅲ)-treated group(P< 0.05). The content of MDA was also increased. The results show that selenium could inhibit manganese with different valance altering lipid peroxidation.

The aim was to study the effect of Mn 2+ exposure on membrane function of different month rats brain mitochondrial. Different-aged (4 months and 18 months) Wistar rats's mitochondria were extracted, exposed to MnCl2·4H2O and then divided into five groups(50, 100, 200, 400 μmol/L and the control group). The fluorescence intensity was detected in successive 3 min by fluorophotometric method. Compared with the control group' the exposed groups showed obvious reduction(P<0.05). In addtion, there was significant difference among the drug-receiving groups(P<0.05). Function and resistance of mitochondrial membrane are decreased with the increase of dosage andages.

The aim was to study the change of the rat hepatic CYP 450 content following administration of Rhizoma Curcumae Longae by cocktail probe drugs. Rats were randomly divided into groups. One group of rats received Rhizoma Curcumae Longae plant extracts once daily orally for six days. The rats in another group received once daily orally normal saline as blank control group and phenobarbital as positive control group at the same time. The plasma concentration of cocktail probe drugs was determined by HPLC. The CYP1A2 and CYP2E1 content of the groups of rats received Rhizoma Curcumae Longae plant extracts was reduced, but the CYP3A4 content didn't markedly change. It suggests that Rhizoma Curcumae Longae is inhibitor of the CYP1A2 and CYP2E1, but the CYP3A4 can be hardly affected.

The aim was to study the effect of quercetin on the expression of caspase-3 in acute myocardial ischemia (AMI). In the rat model of acute myocardial ischemia, the expression of caspase-3 was investigated with immunohistochemical method. The expression of positive cells were measured by image analysis. The expressions of caspase-3 in the AMI group are higher than the sham group, and quercetin could inhibit the expression of caspase-3 in AMI rat. It suggest that quercetin could significantly inhibit the expressions of caspase-3 in AMI. It may be the one of protective mechanisms on impaired myocardium.

The aim was to investigate the prognosis of fetal distress in pregnant women with hepatitis B virus(HBV) infection through analyzing the morphologic change of villus and blood vessel. ① Twenty pregnant women and their newborns were selected. The HBV surface antigen(HBsAg), e antigen(HBeAg), core antibody(HBcAb) and deoxyribonucleic acid(HBV DNA) were positive and the hepatic function normal. Eighteen pregnant women without HBV infection, normal hepatic function and their newborns were collected as control. Morphologic change of villus and blood vessel were observed. The total transverse areas and circumference of villus; the transverse area, circumference, diameter of single villus; the number of vessel in single villus and the area odds of vessel and villus were analyzed through image analysis machine. ② The incidence ratio of fetal distress in uterus was calculated. The results were: ① Comparing the investigate and the control, the total transverse areas was of insignificant difference. The total circumference was smaller than the control(P0.05). ②The transverse area, circumference and diameter of single villus of the investigate was larger than the control(P0.05). ③ The number of vessel in single villus of the investigate was more than the control. The area ratio of vessel to villus was smaller than the control(P0.05). ④ The incidence ratio of fetal distress in the investigate was 55.0%, the control was 11.1%. It suggests that the chorangiosis of placenta is caused in pregnant women by hepatitis B virus(HBV) infection, which is the main reason of fetal distress in uterus

The aim was to investigate the effects of vascular endothelial growth factor(VEGF) and kinase insert domaincontaining receptor(KDR) in uterine bleeding induced by intrauterine device(IUD). Immunohistochemical method was used to detect the expressions of VEGF and KDR in endometrium from IUD bleeding group and normal control group. Microvessel density (MVD) was evaluated by using anti factor Ⅷ-related antigen (F8-RA) antibody to mark stromal microvessels. The expressions of VEGF and KDR were significantly higher in endometrium of IUD bleeding group than those of control group (P<0.001). MVD was significantly higher in IUD bleeding endometrium than that in normal endometrium (P<0.001). The increase of VEGF and KDR contents result in the increase of MVD, which may be related to abnormal bleeding in IUD users.

Three new peptides were purified from porcine chromaffin granule lysate, sequenced by N-terminal degradation and identified with mass spectrometry. They were located at chromogranin A 308—324, 308—328 and 308—329; sharing the same N-terninus but with diffferent extends at the C-terninus. The short form of the peptide (CgA 308—324, GN-17) was synthesized and was found to competitively inhibit CK2 activity at a concentrition as low as 6 μmol/L. The half-maximal inhibition reached at peptide concentration of about 50 μmol/L.

The objective was to study the variation tendency of bilirubin concentration with plasma exchange dosage. The time-measurement method was used to obtain the concentration of bilirubin in plasma from severe hepatitis patients. Theoretically, On the basis of principle of plasma exchange, a two-compartment model of plasma exchange was established, and the relationship between the bilirubin concentration and the dosage of plasma exchange was derivated. Results: The difference between the theoretical and experimental values were quite small, Which illustrate that the theoretical predication was excellent agreement with the experimental measurement. It suggests that this two-compartment model well describes variation tendency of bilirubin concentration in plasma exchange, and it possesses potential value in clinic application.

The aim was to study the relationship between immunological and inflammatory reactions and matrix remodeling. Expression and distribution of immunological and inflammatory reactions were analyzed and compared between ruptured and unruptured saccular aneurysms by immunohistopathological stain. Immunological and inflammatory reactions commonly existed which were triggered mainly by T cells and monocyte/macrophages in aneurysm walls, which tended to be “patchy” pattern in ruptured aneurysms. The essence of matrix remodeling process in saccular aneurysms is a kind of immunological and inflammatory reaction which can accelerate enzymatic degradation of collagens by releasing proteinases, weakening aneurysm walls and may eventually lead to aneurysm rupture.

The aim was to investigate the single nucleotide polymorphism(SNP) of the novel hyperplasia suppressor gene (HSG) and uncover the relationship of HSG SNP and hypertension. Altogether 74 normaltensive people (male 38, female 36), 51 essential hypertensive patients(male 27, female 24),which came from the outward patients of Anzhen hospital, and 20 patients of hypertension with family history (male 9, female 11) were chosen. Respectively, the average age was 54.15±7.77, 57.25±7.97 and 49.97±6.93. Patients vein blood was drawn and DNA was extracted, then the right primers and PCR were designed. The sequences of each PCR-product were sequenced by ABI PRISM 377-DNA sequencer. Cr and BUN were high in hypertensive patients than in normaltensive patients (P<0.01).The level of AngⅡ, ET were higher significantly in normaltensive(P<0.01, P<0.01) while ANP and CGRP were lower in hypertensive patients than in moraltensive patients(P<0.05, P<0.01), though no obvious differences existed in hypertensive patients with family history and the normal control group. Systolic pressure was closely related to age (R=0.387;P<0.001). Diastolic pressure was positively related to AngⅡ,Cr,BUN(R=0.328,0.289,0.165;P<0.001),though was negatively related to HDLC(R= -0.149,P<0.01) There was obvious difference in the 140 nucleotide of the 12th intron nucleotide of HSG in normaltensive, hypertensive patients and patients with family history (0.80,0.41,0;P< 0.001). Probably, Cr and BUN were a sign of hypertension and its complication. Some vasoactive factors may be important in the origin and development of primary hypertension. There was a G-deletion SNP of 12th intron nucleotide of HSG in Chinese, and perhaps the SNP was an independent risk factor for hypertension.

The aim was to observe the the effect of Lishi No.5 Formula capsule on the growth of human neuroblastoma cell line SY5Y and on the neurotoxicity induced by Aβ. Aβ25-35 was synthesized by solid phase method and purified by HPLC. Lishi No.5 Formula water extract was 0.5 g/mL. Human neuroblastoma cells SY5Y were segregated into 3 groups: normal control group; Aβ25-35(25 μmol/L) damaged group; and Aβ25-35(25 μmol/L) + Lishi No.5 Formula water extract (corresponding to Lishi No.5 Formula 0.5 g/L culture medium) for neuroprotection group. MTT metabolic rate, LDH leakage rate, axonal length, area of cell body were used as indicators. Compare with normal control group, Aβ25-35 damaged group showed reduced MTT metabolic rate, increased LDH leakage rate, and diminished axonal length and area of cell body, but the addition of Lishi No.5 Formula normalized the foregoing changes. Lishi No.5 Formula has neuroprotective effect. It can diminish neurotoxicity of Aβ.

The aim was to investigate the coronary angiographic findings and clinical features of acute myocardial infarction(AMI) patients in premenopausal women and young men. Altogether 51 AMI patients(27 men, age<40 years old; 24 premenopausal women) were identified by coronary angiography to analysis their disease history, cardiovascular risk factors, angiographic data and prognosis. The mean risk factors was 2.3 in women, including: family history 19(79.2%), hypercholesterolemia 12(50.0%), hypertension 10(41.7%), diabetes 8(33.3%), smoking 1(4.2%). The mean risk factors was 3.1 in men, which were: smoking 26(96.3%), hypercholesterolemia 19(70.4%),family history 17(63.0%), hypertension 14(51.9%),diabetes 7(25.9%). Angiographic findings reveals: one-vessel disease was 51.9% in men, multi-vessel disease was 58.3% in women. The rates of angiographic therapy success was similar in the men and women and were excellent. Angiographic follow-up: 4 in men developed restenosis, none in women. The results suggest coronary artery atherosclerosis is the major cause of AMI in young men and premenopausal women. The more frequency of multiple risk factors is the characteristic of young AMI patients, and family history lies in the first in women, smoking is a marked risk factor in men.

To compare the effects of hydrochlorothiazide(HCTZ) 12.5 mg, losartan 50 mg and Hyzaar (losartan 50 mg/HCTZ 12.5 mg) on decreasing blood pressure and improving endothelia function in patients with essential hypertension, 77 patients with mild or moderate essential hypertension were arranged into three randomized, parallel groups for 4 weeks' treatment with HCTZ, losartan or losartan/HCTZ respectively. Before and after the treatment, seating blood pressure and endothelia function were measured. The result showed that seating blood pressure in groups of HCTZ, losartan or Losartan/HCTZ decreased significantly after antihypertensive treatment compared with before. The reducing degree of the diastolic blood pressure and the average artery blood pressure of group HCTZ and Losartan were significantly lower than that of group losartan/HCTZ. It is suggested that losartan/HCTZ is a good compound antihypertensive drug, which has better effects on decreasing blood pressure and improving endothelial function than that of the HCTZ or Losartan in patients with essential hypertension.

The purpose was to study the relationship between chronic macrovascular complication and von Willebrand factor (vWF) level in type 2 diabetic patients. 106 type 2 diabetic patients hospitalized were included in our study and divided into two groups. Group A: 53 type 2 diabetic patients without any vascular complications, Group B: 53 patients with macrovascular complication. The age-matched control group consisted of 56 healthy subjects. In this trial, the plasma vWF level was measured by peroxidase enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay, the other data related to diabetic macrovascular complications were also analyzed, such as systolic blood pressure, diastolic blood pressure, urinary albumin excretion rate and glycosylated hemoglobin, etc. The plasma vWF levels were significantly higher in diabetic patients than age-matched control subjects(P<0.01); the plasma vWF level in patients with macrovascular complication group rose significantly compared with control subjects and patients without macrovascular complication respectively (P<0.01). Multiple regression analysis disclosed that low-density lipoprotein (LDL), glycosylated hemoglobin, logarithm of UAER and systolic blood pressure were the primary factors which cause vWF rose up. It suggests that there is endothelial cell damage in diabetic macrovascular complication.

The aim was to determine the relationship between plasma concentrations of Vasoactive intestinal peptide (VIP) and sleep quality in patients with obstructive sleep apnea-hypopnea syndrome (OSAHS). Retaining manometric tube in radial artery and polysomnography (PSG) were done synchronously in 12 patients with OSAHS who was diagnosed by whole-night PSG. Blood specimen were extracted before sleep, during NREM sleep and REM sleep and the next morning to detect plasma concentrations of VIP with Radioimmunoassay(RIA) method. Results: 1) The VIP values before sleep and in the morning were positively correlated with sleep efficacy(the ratio of total sleep time to total record time, r=0.591,P<0.05) and negatively with Arousal/TRT(the ratio of time in arousal to total sleep time, r=-0.586,P<0.05);The VIP values before sleep were regarded as baseline, the changes in VIP values in NREM sleep were negatively correlated with the ratio of time in stageⅠ+Ⅱto total sleep time(Ⅰ+Ⅱ/TST,r=-0.656,P<0.05) and positively correlated with the ratio of time in REM sleep to total sleep time(REM/TST,r=0.705,P<0.01) and those in REM sleep were also positively correlated with REM/TST(r=0.609,P<0.05); 2) The VIP values in different period were positively correlated with the longest time of sleep apnea and apnea-hypopnea index(AHI), but not with hypoxia. In conclusion, VIP may be involved in regulating the sleep in patients with OSAHS.

The aim was to study a more effective surgical approach to treat Chronic ischemic mitral regurgitation(IMR) secondary to ischemic cardiomyopathy. Forty-six patients 〔(64±10) years〕 with previous anterior transmural myocardial infarction and mitral regurgitation compose the study group. Indication for surgery was heart failure in 93% of pts; 25 patients were in NYHA class Ⅳ. Mitral regurgitation was moderate to severe in 32 patients (70%). This surgical approach consisted in endoventricular mitral annuloplasty without prosthetic ring combined with ventricular reconstruction, and coronary artery bypass grafting(CABG). Global perioperative mortality rate was 15.2%; it was 20.0% in patients with EF<30% and 11.5% in patients with EF≥30%. End diastolic and end systolic volumes significantly decreased after surgery(P< 0.001); Pulmonary pressure decreased significantly(P< 0.05). Postoperative MR was absent or minimal in 85% of patients; Late mortality was 15%; Mid-term overall survival rate of 71% seemed promising in this series of patients at extremely high risk for mortality and subsequent cardiac events. This complex surgical procedure has a relatively high operative mortality, but the results are promising. The results of mitral repair should persist over time because the valve leaflets and the subvalvular apparatus are normal, and the two trigones are particularly strong to bear the tension of the stitch.

The aim was to observe the effects of controlled hypotension on regional cerebral blood flow (rCBF) in intracranial aneurysm surgery. Twenty patients were randomly divided into isoflurane (A, n=10) and nimodipine (B, n=10) groups. During controlled hypotension, mean artery pressure(MAP) was maintained at 8.0~8.7(60~65 mmHg) kPa in both groups. In group A, Isoflurane inhalation concentration was increased to 1.4~1.6 MAC. In group B, a bolus of nimodipine was given, followed by a continuous infusion of 10~100 μg/(kg·h). After aneurysm was clipped, papaverine was applied to all major vessels for 10 min. RCBF was continuously measured by laser Doppler flowmeter during the procedure. After clipping aneurysm rCBF decreased significantly in group A compared with before clipping aneurysm(P<0.05). There was no significant change in group B(P>05). After local application of papaverine, rCBF significantly increased in both groups(P<0.05), but the degree of increasing in group A was higher than that in group B(P<0.05). When intraoperative hypotension is induced by nimodipine rCBF is steadier than it is induced by isoflurane.

The aim was to evaluate the quality of the salvaged blood processed by two autotransfusion devices-Ziti-2000 and COBE BRAT-2 during craniotomy and compare the processing effects of these two autotransfusion devices. 18 patients scheduled for elective craniotomy were randomly allocated into two groups. Two autotransfusion devices, Ziti-2000 and COBE BRAT-2 were used respectively. The hematocrit, red cell count, and the concentrations of free hemoglobin, hemoglobin, potassium, sodium and chloride of the blood before and after wash were examined. Both of these two cell-washing devices produced washed blood with hematocrit of about 0.50. In both of these two groups, the concentrations of potassium, sodium and chloride of the washed blood were very close to the physiological ranges. After wash, the concentrations of free hemoglobin were decreased significantly (P<0.01), and reached the acceptable ranges. It suggests that the quality of salvaged blood processed by Ziti-2000 and COBE BRAT-2 during craniotomy was satisfactory. The processing effects of the two cell-washing devices are similar.

The aim was to illustrate the relationship between HP infection and CSG and the relationship between HP infection in CSG patients and age and gender. Retrospectively and histologically the biopsy specimens were doserved in 1 670 patients who were diagnosed as CSG clinically, endoscopically and histologically by HE staining and Giemsa staining to determine the severity and activity of CSG. The biopsy specimens were observed by Giemsa staining to determine HP infection. The incidences of HP in non-active mild, moderate and severe CSG patients were 7.35%, 31.02%, 52.03% respectively, the difference between any two incidences of the three was of statistical significance(P< 0.01), the incidences of HP in active mild, moderate and severe CSG patients were 66.67%, 71.81%, 89.43% respectively, and the difference between the incidences of HP in active mild, moderate and severe CSG patients and the correspondents in non-active CSG patients were of statistical significance(P<0.01). The incidence of HP in male patients was 36.92%, and in female patients was 33.01%. No statistical difference existed between two groups(P>0.05). the incidences of HP in age-group ≤30 years, 31~60 years and ≥61years were 33.92%, 37.90%, 28.74% respectively, with statistical difference only between age-group 31~60 years and ≥61 years(P<0.01). HP infection is a important factor that makes non-active CSG turn into active CSG; HP infection induces increase in the severity of CSG; there is no difference in the incidence of HP between male and female CSG patients; In CSG patients,HP infection is found most commonly in age-group 31~60 years.

The objective of this study was to compare the value of hysteroscopy and dilatation and curettage and traditional D&C in diagnosis of endometrial carcinoma. Seventy patients with endometrial cancer were diagnosed and the operations were performed in our department. They were divided into two groups. Group A(31 patients) was examined by hysteroscopy, group B(39 patients) by D&C. There was no statistic difference in patients age, stage, grade and histological type of the disease between the two groups. Of group A, the accuracy rate for diagnosis of cervical canal involvement was 96.77%(30/31), the false positive rate was 3.23%(1/31). While in group B, the rate was 79.49%(31/39) and 15.38%(6/39) respectively. There was statistic difference (P<0.05) between two groups in estimating the involvement of cervical canal. There was no statistic difference (P>0.05) between two groups in positive peritoneal cytology. The hysteroscopy can discover the involvement of cervical mucosa more accurately in endometrial carcinoma patients, thus avoid unnecessary treatment, but the positive peritoneal cytology rate isn't improved.

The aim was to evaluate the effectiveness and the safety of treatment of endometrial polyps(EP) by hysteroscopy. Retrospectively 108 cases were analysed hysteroscopy scan and transcervical resection of polyp(TCRP) between November 2001 and August 2002 at our center. All operations were performed successfully in one time, with no complications occurred. 98 cases were diagnosed EP by pathological report. The coincidence rate of the hysteroscopic diagnosis and the pathological diagnosis was 90.7%. 90 cases were followed up, 84% cases recovered from menorrhagia, 100% cases recovered from metrorrhagia, 26% primary infertility cases pregnancy successfully after operations. The results indicate that TCRP is the effective and safe way to treat menorrhagia and metrorrhagia caused by EP. TCRP can find out atypical hyperplasia of EP and precancerous lesion, then treat them at earlier period. TCRP is also the first selection to symptomless cases of EP, especially infertility patients.

The aim was to evaluate the safety and efficacy of difficult removal IUD by hysteroscopy and the necessary of B-ultrasound and/or laparoscopic monitoring. Altogether 55 cases transferred from other hospitals because of failing to remove IUD were analysised from Jan 1998 to June 2003. All cases operation were monitored by B-ultrasound, 4 of whom combined laparoscopic monitoring. 53 cases were removed by hysteroscopy, 1 IUD penetrated into pelvic cavity was removed by laparoscopy, 1 case selected trans-abdominal hysterectomy and bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy because of bilateral ovary solid cyst, 2 perforation occurred because of intrauterine adhesion. Difficult removal IUD by hysteroscopy is a safe and effective technique and it is necessary to combine with monitoring of B-ultrasound and laparoscopy.

The aim was to discuss and define the detection of eye signs, diagnose of fixed position before operation and the protection of visual function in patients with sphenoid ridge meningiomas. To make a retrospective analysis, 45 operation-confirmed cases of sphenoid ridge meningiomas were involved from January 1995 to June 2001. Eye signs were shown in 39(87%) cases, and in all of the meningioma of anterior clinoid process, most of them were shown in the form of first symptom. It indicated that if the patient has these symptoms, the probability of this disease should be considered: headache along with a single eye hypopsia and optic atrophy, a single exophthalmos with blepharedema, a single defect of visual field, many extraocular paralysis, and so on. An early diagnosis or treatment is helpful for the recovery of visual function. Taking a postoperative ophthalmological is necessary.

The aim was to cure eyeball rupture by operation. Altogether 48 cases (51 eyes) of kinds of eyeball rupture were treated by earlier-period exploration and mending operation, combined with duo-phase vitrectomy and retinal operation and (or) cataract extraction on the basis of demand to analyze the relation of the severity of the wound, kinds of operation and prognosis. The visual acuity 34 cases(36 eyes) improved, 7 cases(7 eyes) without chang and 7 cases(8 eyes) decreased, among whom 3 cases (3 eyes) occurred atrophy. Conclusion: Deliberate exploration may prevent omitting simple scleral rupture; Whether the wounded eye has vision of LP or not is not the indication of making further operation. It's necessary to do best to save patients' visual acuity by trying vitrectomy and retinal operation as long as opportunity exists.
