Objective assessment of nasal patency

Abstract

Abstract: Nasal obstruction is one of the most common complaints in rhinologic practice. There are subjective and objective methods available for the assessment of nasal patency. Currently, visual analogue scale, based on what the subjects feel, is the most widely used subjective assessment of nasal obstruction. Objective assessment of nasal patency and nasal physiology includes the use of rhinomanometry and acoustic rhinometry, which respectively provides the relationship between pressure and airflow, and a mimic topographic map of the nasal cavity. This review focuses on rhinomanometry and its application in clinical practice.
