Clinical study on improving the quality of life in patients with early and middle stages hepatocellular carcinoma

Abstract: Objective To observe the improvements of life quality of the patients with the early and middle stages hepatocellular carcinoma after treatment by using No.1 Anti Liver Cancer Prescription. Methods Thirty-six patients with early and middle stages hepatocellular carcinoma were included in this study. The patients took No.1 Anti Liver Cancer Prescription orally for 6 months continuously. The medical indicators including the quality of life and traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) syndromes were measured and recorded before the treatment, at the 3nd month of the treatment and at the end of the treatment.Results ① Comparison of quality of life scores:The scores of physical function, role function, emotional function, cognitive function, social function, general health status, fatigue, pain, shortness of breath, insomnia, loss of appetite, constipation and diarrhea were improved continuously. The difference was statistically significant (P<0.05). ② Comparison of TCM syndromes scores:Total score of TCM syndromes was decreased during the treatment period (P<0.05). The syndrome scores of hypochondriac pain, chest tightness and easy to sigh, loss of food-intake, stomach bilges, depressed, belching, abdominal distension, gloomy complexion, dry stool, mouth stick without desire to drink, upset, irritability, bitter taste, mouth and pharyngeal dry, yellow urine, polydipsia, tinnitus, knee weakness, and insomnia were decreased during the treatment period (P<0.05). Conclusion Preliminary observation, No.1 Anti Liver Cancer Prescription was able to improve the quality of life of patients with early and middle stages hepatocellular carcinoma. It can also alleviate clinical symptoms. The meditation effect of long-term treatment is better than that of short-term treatment.
